Do all carpet factories fall under the GoodWeave monitoring and certification system?

Not all carpet factories are part of the GoodWeave monitoring and certification system. GoodWeave conducts regular audits and unannounced child labor inspections only for GoodWeave licensed exporters and their associated supply chain units, including home-based units.

How does GoodWeave identify subcontracted factories for regular monitoring and inspection?

GoodWeave licensed exporter factories are required to accurately report the name, location, and contact information of all production sites, including subcontractors and home-based production. This information is maintained, routinely updated, and submitted to GoodWeave at least every six months. Active sites are subject to regular inspections for child labor and other certification principles.

How does GoodWeave monitor its licensed exporter factories and their subcontracted units, including home-based units?

GoodWeave monitors its licensed exporters factoires and its associated sub-contractor units including home based units against the GoodWeave International Generic Standard. The Standard is comprised of three Principles: 1) No child labour, 2) No forced or bonded labour, and 3) Conditions of work are documented and verifiable. It also includes Progress Principles, which are designed to address a broader range of labour and environmental issues, but are not required for certification.

What happens if a case of child labor is identified during GoodWeave's unannounced inspection at a supply chain unit?

If a case of child labor is identified during an unannounced inspection, the GoodWeave team immediately notifies the factory owner and removes the child from work. The team then gathers necessary details for the remediation process, including assessing the child's family background. The child is either reunited with family with educational support or taken to the GoodWeave transit home, "Hamro Ghar," for alternative care.

For how long can a child stay at "Hamro Ghar"?

Exporters are notified if any cases of child labor are identified in their supply chain units. They are expected to cooperate with the GoodWeave team for complete remediation of such cases.

What happens if a repeat child labor case is identified within one year in the same supply chain unit?
